Honoring a Legacy. Building for the Future.

When family-owned Grote Company decided to renovate its Gahanna headquarters for the first time since 1982, the goal was more than a facelift, it was about creating a workspace that celebrates their people, reflects their heritage, and supports innovation for decades to come.

Challenge

After decades without major updates, Grote’s headquarters no longer met the evolving needs of its employees. The leadership team recognized the importance of creating a functional, inspiring workplace that aligned with their culture of care and craftsmanship. They sought to integrate modern technology, enhance collaboration, and provide private spaces employees could personalize, all within a design that balanced budget, timeline, and long-term value.

Vision

The vision was to design a warm yet modern environment that honors Grote’s family-owned legacy while reflecting its forward-thinking spirit. Natural materials, industrial influences, and brand-infused details would convey authenticity and pride. Spaces for teamwork, focused work, and social connection were prioritized to encourage innovation, collaboration, and community among the 52 employees.

Collaboration

LOTH partnered with MA Design and MAC Construction to bring the project to life, curating furniture and solutions that elevated both form and function. Every employee was given a curated menu of furniture options to customize their office, ensuring flexibility while maintaining design cohesion. A standout collaboration came through A Carpenter’s Son and Grote’s own manufacturing team. Together, they designed a custom boardroom table and storage wall featuring Grote-fabricated metalwork, branded accents, and a stamped company logo, an heirloom piece that reflects craftsmanship and pride in their work.

Result

Completed in April 2025, the 15,000-square-foot renovation transformed Grote’s workspace into a modern, welcoming headquarters that truly reflects who they are. Employees love the new café, training spaces, and meeting rooms that support connection and productivity. The boardroom has become a centerpiece for client meetings and internal gatherings alike. While the company already enjoyed strong retention, the refreshed environment positions Grote to attract new talent and continue its legacy of excellence for generations to come.
