Creating Active Environments for Xavier Jesuit Academy

Xavier Jesuit Academy is a scholarship-funded, faith-based institution for young men in grades 3-8, dedicated to fostering brotherhood, high academic standards, and the Jesuit Catholic values that honor the culture and dignity of the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.

When it was time to design and build their school, Xavier Jesuit Academy envisioned a space that would support “Active Learning” environments aligned with their unique academic model. They needed a design that could seamlessly function within a shared building, as it would also house the Church of the Resurrection. Xavier Jesuit Academy sought a partner who could fulfill their vision while being mindful of practical considerations like budget, design, and installation.

LOTH’s ability to deliver a comprehensive value proposition—blending creativity, attention to detail, and full-service design and installation—made it the ideal partner for Xavier Jesuit’s vision. After reviewing solutions and learning from other K-12 projects, Xavier Jesuit Academy recognized the alignment of values and vision LOTH brought to the table.

Partnering with K4 Architecture and Design and Triversity Construction, LOTH took a highly collaborative approach to bring Xavier Jesuit’s vision to life. Working within K4’s color palette for carpets and paint, LOTH’s design team selected finishes that harmonized with the overall aesthetic and functional goals. Regular “Live Design” sessions were instrumental in adapting to the evolving needs of Xavier Jesuit, ensuring every element—from classrooms to administrative offices—was designed with purpose and precision.

Key goals for the project included:

  • Creating a vibrant, welcoming space that embodies Xavier Jesuit’s identity.
  • Designing an adaptable, dynamic environment tailored to Xavier Jesuit’s academic model.
  • Enhancing active learning spaces to engage students fully.
  • Establishing flexible administrative areas that support both private and collaborative work for teachers and staff.
  • Developing a cohesive environment for students, teachers, and administrators alike.

Throughout the project, LOTH brought in trusted furniture solutions from manufacturers like Steelcase, Smith System, and Hon, ensuring that the final spaces aligned with both the school’s aesthetic and budgetary preferences.

The result was an inspiring, functional educational space that supports Xavier Jesuit Middle School’s mission of nurturing the body, mind, and spirit through active learning. The newly designed environment not only elevates student engagement and teacher collaboration but also serves as a space that reflects Xavier Jesuit’s unique brand and commitment to educational excellence.
