LOTH cannot advise our customers on how to clean to kill the COVID-19 virus, but we are prepared to provide cleaning information from our manufacturer partners.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, we have begun the process of evaluating our products with four types of cleaning and disinfecting products (“cleaners” from this point forward) commonly used in healthcare settings and also recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

  1. Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (quaternary compound).
  2. Hydrogen Peroxide in a 3.0% solution.
  3. Isopropyl alcohol at 70% concentration in water or Ethyl alcohol at 50% concentration in water.
  4. Sodium Hypochlorite at a concentration of 5.25%-6.25% in solution with other active and inactive ingredients (basically household bleach). Diluting this bleach with water at 10 parts water to 1 part bleach creates an effective and very common disinfectant recommended by the CDC for use in disinfecting interior surfaces.

RECCOMMENDED CLEANING PROTOCOL

  1. Identify the materials in your space (working with your dealer or salesperson).
  2. Refer to the Surface Materials Cleaning Manual for instructions on cleaning your specific materials.
  3. Disinfect hard surfaces. (Disinfectants have not yet been identified for general use on soft surfaces. That information is coming soon. Until then, cleaning will reduce the risk of infection by removing germs, dirt and impurities.)
  4. Rinse.
  5. Wash hands frequently.

STEELCASE STANDARD HARD SURFACES

For hard surfaces (including glass, metal, wood, laminate, paint, plastic), use one of these common quad-type cleaners:

  • Lysol Disinfecting Wipes (EPA registration number 777-114)
  • Formual 409 Disinfecting Spray (EPA registration number 67619-10)
  • Clorox Non-Bleach Disinfecting Wipes (EPA registration number 67619-9)
  • Lysol All Purpose Spray Cleaner (EPA registration number 777-66)
  • Fantastik All Purpose Spray Cleaner (EPA registration number 4822-530)

STEELCASE STANDARD SOFT SURFACES

Many of our fabrics are safe to use with a 10:1 water/bleach spray, but not all. For a list of these materials, see the Finish Library and filter by “bleach cleanable.” We are in the process of testing other cleaners and will update this information as we receive it.

Directions for cleaning:

  • The spray should be enough to coat the surface of the fabric, but not to soak through to the substrate.
  • Be sure to spray the cleaner uniformly, in order to minimize the impact of the cleaner on material color and visual uniformity.
